The Music 4 Mental Health Campaign consists of the Stigma Tours and the American Heroes Tours. Studies show that nearly one-half of all severe and persistent cases of mental illness become evident by age 14 and three-fourths by age 24. The Stigma Tour was created to reach out and open the dialogue about these issues troubling young people across America. The American Heroes Tour serves to honor our veterans, service people, and first responders of disasters by educating the public about the devastating effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury on both the soldiers and their loved ones. For that reason, The Heart of Virginia Foundation has partnered with SAMHSA, The Veterans Administration, regional representatives and key community stakeholders with the goal of integrating community assets and creating cohesive programs instituting a united effort of response and understanding.
